Summary Draft 2

According to Daubach (2019), it is not recommended for Southeast Asia to transit to clean energy using a standardized approach. Instead, a region-catered solution is advised.

The article states that it is not feasible for Singapore to rely on solar or wind energy due to limited land, while depending on hydrogen usage is not cost efficient. Nuclear fusion seems to be ideal for Singapore however, it is not energy efficient. Energy usage has to be considered as it contributes greatly in achieving “climate neutrality.”

The article claims that Southeast Asia is the furthest in the clean energy race despite being the most affected by climate change which leaves huge room for improvement. With coal being a huge obstacle, not only is innovation needed, technology, business and policymakers also need to work closer together.

Building more energy infrastructure will be advantageous in transiting towards clean energy following the drastic economic growth.

Summary Draft 1

According to Tim (2019), in order for Southeast Asia to transit towards clean energy, it’s not recommended to implement a standardized approach. Instead having a region-catered solution is advised.

While it’s not feasible for Singapore to rely on solar or wind energy, depending on hydrogen usage is not cost efficient and despite nuclear fusion seeming to be ideal for Singapore it’s not energy efficient enough. Energy usage also has to be considered as it contributes greatly towards achieving “climate neutrality.”

Southeast Asia is lagging the furthest in the clean energy race despite being the most affected by climate change. But that also means the potential for improvement is plentiful. With coal being a huge obstacle, not only is innovation needed, technology, business and policymakers also need to work closer together

With drastic economic growth, building more energy infrastructure will only be advantageous in the endeavors to transit to clean energy.

Task 7

 Introduction letter

Greetings Prof Brad

I am Daniiel and I am writing this letter in hope of allowing you to get to know me better. After completing my studies at Ngee Ann Polytechnic in the electronic and computer engineering course and having completed an internship at TUV SUD PSB Singapore, I have come to have a clearer understanding of what I would like to spend the large majority of my life doing.

While I may not have a specific goal or path that I want to walk down planned out yet, what I do know is that I would rather not have to be spending most of my time after work on trouble shooting programs and bug fixing. Having already experienced how deep that rabbit hole goes, I have instead chosen to pursue what the future holds for me after graduating from SIT. As I much prefer seeing myself as a building consultant in the future rather than troubleshooting bugs in a program.

Conversing with new people is one of my strength. Back when I was doing my internship, I had managed to get along well with my seniors and superiors without much difficulties. But being a man of many words and strong opinions also means that going overboard with most conversations was one of my greatest weaknesses.

Thus, it dawn on me in recent years that I have to put a lot more consideration into what I say or I'll end up with more enemies than friends. I also hope that I'll be able to make my words more concise as often time I find my words to be rather lengthy.

Hoping to improve and expand my current skillset in this module, I look forward to our time together in the weeks to come.

Best regards

Daniiel Kumar Ooi.

Task 5.2

“Critical Thinking: The Soul of Communication”

How do you see communication and critical thinking impacting your future role as a leader in the workplace?

Communication being unavoidable in most if not every line of work, without achieving a certain level of communication skills, one would find that even avoiding trouble to be quite a challenge, much less having any hopes for workplace success.

Thus, if I am to succeed in a leadership or management role 10 years down the road, it is of upmost importance that I acquire, to the best of my abilities, an appropriate arsenal of communication skills and techniques. For without such, the above mention scenario might just come to pass.

But it would not be sufficient for one to just be able to communicate effectively. As if one does not speak with intent or purpose, their word would then lack any meaning and it would then be anything but easy for an understanding to be achieve or for any comprehension to be formed.

If one was to think critically and present a well thought out idea or concept instead, one will find that not only will sound reasoning and judgement came quite naturally but clear communication will also be delivered quite nicely. Therefore, saying my future will be shaped by my communications skills is not too much of a stretch.

Task 3

“While all engineers should have good communication skills, global engineers face additional challenges, making effective communication an imperative.”

Debra Kraft, Careers Content Writer, Demand Media (2016)

It's imperative for global engineers to have effective communication skills as not only will they often find themselves facing language barriers/ accent. Additional challenges they will have to face could also arise from the differing cultures, and working environment/ conditions  they will be placed in. Hence that is why effective communication skills are indispensable for global engineers.
